AMP is NOT required for mobile rankings. It was never a ranking factor—just a requirement for Top Stories carousel (which has since changed). AMP provided speed benefits, but modern sites can achieve similar performance without AMP's restrictions. Many sites have successfully moved away from AMP without ranking loss.
